How we know what we say.

01Editorial principles

  • Evidence first. Health claims rely on veterinary research, especially UK primary-care data from the Royal Veterinary College’s VetCompass programme, and on guidance from veterinary and welfare bodies.
  • UK-specific. Law, prices and services are checked for the UK, with differences between the four nations noted where they matter.
  • Plain about uncertainty. Where evidence is limited or contested, such as the breed’s ancient origins, we say so.
  • No paid placements. We don’t accept payment to mention products, breeders, rescues or services, and the site carries no advertising or affiliate links.
  • Not a vet. Nothing here replaces advice from a vet who has examined your dog.

02How we handle figures

Statistics are quoted with their source, sample and year. Prices are presented as ranges and labelled as estimates, because vet fees vary widely across the UK. The budget calculator shows every assumption so you can replace it with local quotes.

04Review schedule

Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed. Law and travel pages are checked at least every three months, because the rules change often (pet travel to the EU changed in April 2026 and may change again). Health pages are reviewed at least once a year.

05Corrections

If you spot an error or something out of date, email info@baladanmeri.com with the page and what’s wrong. We correct factual errors promptly and note significant changes on the page.

06Photography and illustration

Video and photography show real Chihuahuas of different coats, colours and ages. Where a scene doesn’t model ideal practice, such as a dog filmed on a stool in a studio, the caption says so. Diagrams are original illustrations, simplified for clarity.
